Quest for a National flag for India, Part - XV The Communist Red Flag, vis-a-vis, The Swaraj Flags

The Communist Party of India was founded at Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 1920, soon after the Second Congress of the Communist International. M. N. Roy was one of the founding members of the party. The centralised Communist Party of India was formed at Cawnpore (now spelt Kanpur) in 1925, and the 1st. Congress of the Communit Party of India held in Bombay (Mumbai) in 1943. The Communists upheld the Red flag in their party programmes, as well as, during protest movements, despite its policy of unity with the dominant Congress and the Muslim League in the struggle for freedom. During the Civil Disobedience Movement, differences and disagreements with the Congress line with the Communists surfaced. And it became critical during the Quit India Movement of 1942.
An Indian stamp issued in 1977 to commemorate
the 60th. anniversary of the Great October Revolution of 1917
At the Fifth Congress of the Communist International held in Moscow in 1924, the Proletarian Organisations of Moscow presented a gold embroidered Red Flag to the Indian working classes as a token of revolutionary unity.

Manabendra Nath Roy (Bhattacharya) (1887–1954),
was an internationally known political theorist and activist.
He was reputed as a founder member of the Communist Parties
in Mexico and India. He later denounced communism as
exponent of the philosophy of Radical Humanism.

The Indian Communist member of the British Parliament, Sapurji Saklatwala, came to India in 1927. Sapurji inaugurated the Annual Conference of the All India Trade Union Congress (A.I.T.U.C.) in Delhi in March 1927. It is here in India for the first time, the RED FLAG was ceremoniously raised by Sapurji Saklatwala and the slogan raised “LAL JHANDA KI JOY”(Victory to Red Flag).

(Shapurji Saklatvala (1874 – 1936) was a British politician of Indian Parsi heritage. He was the third Indian Member of the Parliament of U.K. after fellow Parsis Dadabhai Naoroji and Mancherjee Bhownagree).

Special postmark issued on 20. 4. 1985 to mark the opening of a stamp exhibition organised in New Delhi in commemoration of the 115th. Birth anniversary of V. I. Lenin.

E. M. S. Namboodiripad (1909–1998), was an Indian Communist and socialist and a Marxist theorist. In 1934, he was one of the founder leaders of Congress Socialist Party, a socialist wing within the Indian National Congress. He was also elected to the Madras Legislative Assembly (1939). He remained committed to socialist ideals and his compassion towards the working class made him join the ranks of the Communist movement.

The All India Forward Bloc is another left-wing nationalist political party in India. It emerged as a faction within the Indian National Congress in 1939, led by Subhas Chandra Bose.

The Forward Bloc re-established as an independent political party after the independence of India. It is understood that Sheel Bhadra Yajee from Bihar - adopted a Red flag with a springing tiger and a hammer and sickle in 1948 (?).
